Harvest time at an organic SRI farm in Zarraga!! Our farmer-beneficiaries were cordially invited by the owner and mentor Joby Arandela, to take part in harvesting the palay we planted some 3 months ago. The immersion allowed the farmers to see first hand how beneficial SRI farming technology is to the soil, to the crop, the creatures in the farm, the ultimate consumers of the produce, and most of all to the farmers. Our farmers were pretty impressed at the level of health of the rice plants, the resilience of the crop despite its being rain-fed, the number of tillers that sprouted from a single grain, and the sizable amount of savings from seeds, synthetic fertilizers and chemicals!!!
