Soybean is a very good secondary crop or alternate crop for rice in this flood and drought prone area. An organic SRI farm in Zarraga demonstrated how soybeans can be planted along the periphery of rice paddies.
As a legume and compost material, it helps fix nitrogen in the farm while providing additional income for the farmers. It is also a nutritious, steady, low-cost and easy to prepare alternative source of milk for the family.
