Known as alamang in Tagalog and krill in English, is a species of small shrimp that is abundant during the last quarter of the year in Bantigue and nearby coastal areas. The price per kilo of this catch usually plummets during the height of the season. If the islanders could learn the technology of making bagoong out of suahi hand in hand with trading skills, they could have an alternative source of income come end of December until most of January when bad weather and rough seas prevent them from fishing. When asked why they are not exploring the possibilities of having bagoong as a source of livelihood, our beneficiaries and their neighbors replied, they have been fishing all their lives and do not know how to process their catch as well as sell them.
